Jan Hábl (CZE)

Comenius expert, lecturer

 

Jan Hábl is a teacher, expert on the teachings of Comenius, and evangelical preacher. He lectures for students and the public in the fields at the interface of anthropology, ethics, history and philosophy of education, especially at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem and at the Faculty of Education of the University of Hradec Králové. He is the author of the Comenius 2020 project and works at the Centre for Character Development and the Evangelical Theological Seminary.

 

After studying Philosophy of education at the University of Wales, he worked as a primary school teacher, university teacher and pastor. He has also been involved in Comenius research at the Comenius Institute in Prague.
He is the author of a number of fiction and non-fiction books, such as Ultimate Human Goals in Comenius and Modern Pedagogy (2011), On Being Human(e) (2017), and others. He got inspired to the issue of character development by Comenius' idea that a truly educated person is one who "knows the good, wants the good, and does the good, even when no one is looking."
