Kate studied Physics at Imperial College London and Atomic and laser physics at the University of Oxford. She leads a research group at the Helmholtz Center in Dresden, and teaches at the Technical University there.
She worked at the National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA, participating in the project of the supermodern laser center of ELI Beamlines. She deals with plasma physics and interactions of matter with powerful lasers. She is also a keen science popularizer.
The lecture will discuss the world's largest laser systems and their applications in thermonuclear fusion.
