Junghoon Lee is a prominent South Korean director, recognized for his versatility across genres and platforms and for his significant impact on contemporary Korean television drama. He graduated in English Linguistics from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, giving him a strong foundation in storytelling, narrative structure, and character psychology.
He began his professional career in 2011 as part of the SBS MediaNet Drama Team, where over the course of ten years he directed or produced more than fifteen projects, gradually developing his own distinctive directorial style. Lee advanced from assistant director to independent director, demonstrating remarkable adaptability in the rapidly evolving landscape of Korean drama. He has gained experience with both traditional broadcasting and modern streaming services, and even before the rise of OTT platforms, he was already creating short-form web content, showing his keen awareness of changing audience preferences.
A turning point in his career came with the thriller “Ms. Ma: Nemesis” (2018), the first Korean adaptation of Agatha Christie’s stories, where he demonstrated his skill in handling emotional arcs and complex mysteries. His most acclaimed work to date is the medical thriller “Hunter with a Scalpel” (Disney+, 2025), which attracted international attention, was featured in the Non-Competition Section at Canneseries, and became the top-ranked show on Korean Disney+ immediately after its release—despite a 19+ rating due to graphic autopsy scenes.
Today, Junghoon Lee is regarded as a director who skillfully combines traditional Korean storytelling with modern cinematic techniques, reaching audiences around the world.
