Humazapas is a collective of young Indigenous artists from Cotacachi, Ecuador, dedicated to reviving the music, dance, and oral traditions of the Kichwa people since 2010. Their work weaves together ancestral memory, rituals, mythology, and traditional instruments with new musical structures and present-day themes. Their performances are powerful expressions rooted in the living Andean culture.
In 2023, they released their debut album Sara Mama, a musical tribute to the sacred bond between people, land, and the spirit of nature. Their music holds both the fragility and strength of Indigenous identity, becoming a voice of renewal, resistance, and hope.
Beyond performance, Humazapas run the Waruntzy school to teach traditional arts and language to children, and they organize the Turu Uku festival—an intergenerational space for sharing, learning, and cultural transmission. With Humazapas, tradition is not a memory of the past, but a living future.
