Miroslav Tóth (SVK)

Composer, saxophonist and sound designer

 

Miroslav plays in several bands that he founded, including Drť, Srnka and Predskokan Otrok, and with the Dystopic Requiem Quartet, performing his original compositions such as Black Angels Songs and Niemiest. He currently works as a sound designer at Czech Radio.

 

Miroslav completed his doctoral studies at Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Previously, he graduated with a Master's degree in Composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and holds a degree in Musicology from Comenius University in Bratislava.
He is the author of a number of orchestral and chamber compositions, unconventional operas and three video operas. His piece The quartet of Tentacles Reaching Out was premiered by Kronos Quartet at the 2018 Pohoda Festival. Miroslav has also composed music for dozens of documentaries and feature films. His compositions are regularly performed at the Ostrava Days of Contemporary Music (NODO) festival. As a saxophonist, he has performed contemporary compositions at festivals such as Prague Spring, and as a soloist with the Prague Chamber Philharmonic.
He is the winner of three Radio_Head Awards in the experimental music section for the composition Kyberpunkomša (2018) and the albums "S'ihmon" and "+" with the band Shibuya Motors (2020), as well as two awards for sound design for the film Služobníci (Servants; directed by Ivan Ostrochovský).
