Matěj Bernát (CZE)

Doctor, mountaineer

Climber, skier, ski mountaineer, trail runner and dentist, who was the first Czech and the third youngest man to complete (by crossing the Peuterey Intégrale) the 82 × 4000 project. He climbed all 82 Alpine 4,000-meter peaks. He surpassed the iconic winter crossing of Vladimir "Gypsi" Tatarka by crossing fifty kilometres and 6,000 vertical metres in 16 hours and 25 minutes, shortening the original record by 4 hours.

Last year, he and Mara Holecek made a successful first ascent of the Himalayan Sura Peak (6764) via the west face, alpine style, the Simply Beautiful route. The ascent ranks among the top 10 expeditions, and an original half-hour film was made about the expedition.
Matěj also runs extreme endurance races, he goes to the Tatra Mountains almost every weekend. He co-founded the Mountain Squat sports shop with his brother, and started his own dental clinic. He does most of his adventures solo, in one go, with as little equipment as possible. As he says, "Less stuff, less problems."
