Martin Baxa (CZE)

Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic

 

Since 2017, he has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, and since December 2021, the Minister of Culture.

 

Martin graduated from Masaryk University in Brno in history and geography teaching. Until 2017, he taught at a grammar school in Pilsen, and at the same time, he was active in municipal and regional politics.
Between 2004 and 2008, he served as a Councilor of the Pilsen Region for culture and heritage preservation. After the municipal elections in 2010, he was elected the youngest mayor in the history of the city of Pilsen. After the elections in 2014, he became the 1st Deputy Mayor of the City of Pilsen for Culture, Tourism, Monument Care and the Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015 project. Between 2018 and 2022, he was the Mayor of the City of Pilsen again.
In his free time, Martin is interested in history, architecture, literature and visual arts.
