In 2013, he led the expedition along the Transpolar Mainline, of the Dead Road, built by gulag prisoners at Stalin’s order. The track went through the rough and uninhabited lands along the Arctic Circle. Unlike other “great works of socialism”, the track has been abandoned and the purpose of the construction is now a guesswork. Sixty years after Stalin’s death, Tomasz Grzywaczewski and his crew set off along the famous railroad to meet the modern inhabitants of Siberia and visit the remnants of the labour camps.
