An American physics professor, educational innovator, and comics-ologist, James is also the author of the popular bestseller The Physics of Superheroes, in which he explains the theories of physical laws through stories of well-known comics characters.
James lectures at Minnesota University, serves as a consultant for film adaptations of famous comic books, and is a passionate collector of comic books.
James started to admire „science" in comic books at the age of 8, especially the story of the super-fast hero Flash. He has been using comic stories to teach university physics since 2001 when he opened the seminar Everything I Need to Know about Science I Learned from Reading Comic Books. His university courses became so popular that he summed up his findings in the book The Physics of Superheroes (the Czech translation will be published this year by Argo publishing house). The book has been translated into many languages, including German, Spanish, Korean, and Chinese.
