Lecture in language
A scientist, teacher, manager and linguist all in one has been working on a sandy beach for 27 years.
As a young graduate of tropical ecology, he was told about a research project in New Guinea. At that time, he couldn’t even imagine that the Pacific island would become his main workplace and second home.
For twenty-seven years now, the Czech Professor Vojtěch Novotný has been running The New Guinea Binatang Research Center in Papua New Guinea, researching the island’s diversity, leading students and staff and, in addition to biodiversity, focusing more and more on the ethnic and cultural diversity and protection of indigenous cultures from extinction. His latest work deals with the cultural diversity of the New Guinean languages.
