Tomáš studied physics at Masaryk University in Brno and obtained also his Ph.D. in theoretical physics and astrophysics there. From 1988 to 2015 he worked at the Ostrava Planetarium of the VSB ‒ Technical University of Ostrava, of which 22 years were spent as head of the institution.
He has been involved in the Czech Astronomical Society for a long time. Tomáš is fond of Kurt Vonnegut, Jan Werich (Czech actor), Joan Miró, functionalism, the Beatles, broccoli and the internet. He dislikes Alois Jirásek (Czech writer), Petr Novotný's (Czech comedian) humour, socialist realism, brass bands, dill sauce and written examinations.
