He began writing and blogging for The Economist in 2009 on America and South-East Asia, and later served as Netherlands correspondent, deputy Europe editor, Central and Eastern European correspondent and most recently Europe editor.
Before becoming a journalist, he spent several years as a website producer for startup companies and as a screenwriter of animated television shows for Disney and Nickelodeon. He is the author of many episodes of the children’s cartoon series Arthur. Matt studied Russian history and literature at Harvard and interactive telecommunications at New York University. He speaks English, Russian, French, Dutch and Vietnamese.
