Jiří deals with zoology and the problems of nature conservation ex situ and in situ.
He studied at the University of Ostrava and Palacký University in Olomouc. Since 1998, he has been working at the Ostrava Zoo where, over the course of more than a quarter of a century, he worked as an animal keeper, zoologist and head of the zoological department. He has been the director of the Ostrava Zoo since 2021. "We have led the Earth to yet another ‒ sixth extinction of species. Building the zoo as an ark of endangered species has become a necessity and a regular mission," he says.
