The publication Panorama of Czech Literature after 1989 writes of his poetry, "A poet whose first collection grew out of the intimacy of a happy family gradually expanded the palette of his poetry to include darker tones and motifs, his verses pulsating between joy and embarrassment, between hope and disillusionment."
He teaches Czech literature at the Silesian University in Opava, where he also heads the Department of Cultural Dramaturgy. Jakub is the co-author of the audio-visual project Modern Poetry for Schools. Together with Vít Sliva, he compiled the anthology Nejlepší české básně 2016 (The Best Czech Poems 2016). He is the lyricist of the band Ležérně a vleže from Vsetín, and as an actor and author of the show Na posedu he performed at the legendary absinthe club Les in Ostrava. Currently, he is also one of the dramaturgists and authors of the Internet Radio Les.
