Ivana Plechatá is the head of the Vlček Family Foundation, which is building a children's hospice and palliative centre in the Czech Republic. Previously, she headed, among others, the Sue Ryder Home, which provides social services to the elderly.
Shortly after the Velvet Revolution, Ivana became involved in politics, was an advisor to Václav Klaus, and in 1996 was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the Civic Democratic Party. As a deputy, she was a member of the Committee on Health and Social Policy. She then moved to the newly formed Freedom Union. In 1998, she left politics and began working at the Sue Ryder Foundation in Prague, where she became director a few years later. Until 2011, she led Sue Ryder International with projects in Europe and Africa. More recently, she has been active in patient support organisations, most recently as Director of Průvodce pacienta (The Patient’s Guide). She also founded the independent online medium Ozdravotnictvi.cz, which has been covering specialist topics since 2012.
