One of today’s most renowned brain researchers, known as a critic of the current digitization of society. Prof. DDr. Manfred Spitzer directs the psychiatric university hospital in Ulm and the Transfer Center, founded by him in 2004 for Neurosciences and Learning. He works at the interface between mind and brain in the areas of cognitive and social neuroscience.
With his books and television shows (Mind & Brain, BR alpha) he conveys results and relations of neuroscience comprehensible to the public. His recent book ‘Digital Dementia’ about the adverse effects of Internet use sums up why too much screen time is dumbing down society; why he doesn’t watch TV and plays a musical instrument instead and why it’s worth keeping the brain active as we get older. His statements keep provoking heated discussions.
