For many years he worked in the prestigious Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, to which he continues to contribute regularly. Mariusz is a founding member of the Polish Institute of Reportage, that, in addition to the reportage school, bookstore, literary café and community center, publishes reportage books in its own publishing house Dowody na Istnienie, including a series of Czech titles. He is the author of a number of reportage and columnist books, most of which have been translated into Czech and other languages.
In the Czech Republic, his book ‚Gottland‘ gained attention in 2007. It tells the modern history of our country from a Pole‘s viewpoint. The book has been translated into 19 languages and has become a world bestseller, awarded with many prizes. To mention one review, in 2014, the writer Julian Barnes named Gottland the best translation of the year in The Guardian.
In his latest book of reports entitled ‚Nie ma‘ (There isn‘t), Mariusz returns to the Czech Republic in several texts and the reports from Poland reflect various kinds of loss – therefore the title. The author was awarded the most important Polish literary prize Niké and the Niké Readers Prize.
