POETRY vs. SHOW! Slam poetry is not to be confused with an author reading or recitation competition. Authors-performers focus on what they communicate and how they communicate it. Communication with the audience is important, and it is to some extent an interactive discipline. Mimics, expression, movement, rhythm, and the message all come into play.
