This year marks 40 years since the discovery of the HIV virus, the causative agent of the AIDS disease, which kills almost three quarters of a million people worldwide every year. Since the start of the monitoring of this disease in 1985, almost 4,400 people have been infected with HIV in the territory of the current Czech Republic, and almost 570 of them have died.
MD Daniela Bartková will focus on this currently incurable but very treatable disease if detected early. Daniela will talk about prevention options, such as pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV infection and she will also remind people of the importance of testing. Early detection of the disease and subsequent initiation of treatment plays a key role in the quality of life of people with HIV.
