David was born and brought up in Zimbabwe. As a teenager in the late 1970’s, he first heard about Tibetan Buddhism. He then shaped his life philosophy during his studies of psychology and in his early thirties, on the rise of a career in corporate PR, he started his meditation practice and a journey of inner growth. Within two years of beginning to meditate, David achieved a long-held ambition of becoming a published writer. The ‘Buddhism for Busy People’ describes David’s encounter with the Dharma. It became a bestseller in Australia and then it was published in a number of different countries and languages. Among his other well-known non-fiction titles we can name ‘Why Mindfulness is Better than Chocolate’, ‘Hurry Up and Meditate,’ and 'Buddhism for Pet Lovers.' Nevertheless, The Dalai Lama’s Cat book series has brought him worldwide popularity.
David is currently an international keynote speaker, corporate trainer and coach on mindfulness and meditation. He also runs a blog on mindfulness and related subjects at www.davidmichie.com which attracts a global audience of thousands of visitors each week. His recorded guided meditations are used in-flight by Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand. Free guided sessions are also available on his website.
In 2015 he established Mindful Safaris, leading groups to his native Africa, encouraging people to visit unexplored places, outer and inner, through a combination of daily game viewing trips and mindfulness sessions. “It is a place where young people who have lost their way in the urban wilderness may be brought to discover their strengths and develop fresh skills,” David comments on the project.
