A Czech writer, literary historian, screenwriter, translator of German works and dramaturgist. Radka Denemarková is the only Czech author to win the Magnesia Litera, a prestigious award for literature, four times in three categories (prose, journalism, translation) and to receive the Book of the Year Award. This February, her latest novel “Hodiny z olova” was released.

She graduated from the Czech studies and German studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, where she later earned her Ph.D. She worked as a researcher at the Institute of Czech Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and also worked as a lecturer and dramaturgist for the theater Na Zábradlí. Externally, she taught creative writing at Josef Škvorecký Literary Academy. Since 2004 she has been a freelance writer.
Every year she leads creative writing workshop for children from children's homes, she is a regular guest of literary festivals and book fairs in many European and overseas countries. She lives in Prague with her daughter Esther and her son Jan.
