He has been in the army for over thirty years. General Petr Pavel is the former Chief of General Staff of the Army of the Czech Republic. His term of office as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee ended last year. He became the first representative of the former Warsaw Pact countries to hold the highest military function of the North Atlantic Alliance. He is a holder of several important medals and awards.
In the 1990s he worked in the Army Intelligence Service, in 1993 he achieved success in UNPROFOR peacekeeping missions. Accepting the role in NATO in 2015, he ended his function as Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army. The threat of the Islamic State was one of the important security issues at the time of his post.
According to the decision of the Czech Chamber of Deputies in June this year, Petr should be awarded the Order of the White Lion by the Czech President.
