A Czech long-distance swimmer and runner, originally named Petra Bernardová, received the name Abhejali, meaning Pure Water, from her teacher Sri Chinmoy. Under his leadership, at the age of 18, she began to pursue meditation and later complemented it with running and swimming. In endurance sports as well as in her life, she is particularly attracted to self-knowledge and exploration of her own limits.
In February 2018 she swam across Cook Strait, completing the Oceans Seven, a marathon swimming challenge, and becoming the tenth person in history to finish this challenge (and the first person from a country without access to the sea). She co-organizes the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run with a burning torch that runs through more than 140 countries. Its purpose is to spread friendship, peace and understanding and to overcome the boundaries between people and within ourselves.
