Václav constantly monitors changes in the Czech landscape and climate. He is also involved in other professional activities. In his books he often writes about philosophy, theology, and art. He translates Taoist and Zen texts.

Vaclav participated in a number of television projects, such as the series "Putování starými cestami"(On the Old Roads), „Kameny v české krajině“ (Stones in the Czech Landscape), „Řeka v proudu času“ (River in the Flow of Time, „Podzemní Čechy“ (The Underground Czech Republic) and „Magické hory“ (The Magic Mountains). At home and at US universities, he lectures about the development of the Czech landscape.
Since his childhood Vaclav has been fascinated by nature and its forces. He attended English-Swahili High School in Tanzania for some time. After returning to Czechoslovakia he studied at the Technical High School of Mining Industry in Pribram. Later he graduated with a degree in geology from the Charles University in Prague. After the Velvet Revolution he became a member of the newly founded Geological Institute of the Academy of Sciences, where he focused especially on the study of lunar rocks, karst sediments, and minerals.
