He studied molecular biology and genetics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Masaryk University in Brno, and studied theology in Olomouc and Brussels. In 1997 and 2000, he participated in two Antarctic expeditions. In 2002, he spent six months in the Trappist monastery Sept-Fons in France. He teaches biology and religion at the Bishop Grammar School in Brno. He is Head of the Institute of Ethics at the 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University and also the Administrator of the parish of Lechovice near Znojmo. At the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University in Brno, he teaches a seminar focused on the relationship between Christianity and ecology. Marek publishes in a number of professional and popular periodicals, and deals with the themes of evolutionary biology and medical and environmental ethics.
