Mountains are the purpose of Marek's life and his outlet. He left his managerial position to climb and started his own, as he says, "tiny" business. He writes about climbing and films and takes photos on his travels. When he returns from the mountains, he lectures. He lives in the center of Prague with his partner and daughter Viktorka.
He has received several awards from the Czech Mountaineering Union for his ascents and expeditions, the most recent of them being the Ascent of the Year award for Gasherbrum I in 2017.
He published the book České himalájské dobrodružství (The Czech Himalayan Adventure) with the subtitle Zápisky Marouška blázna (Memoirs of Madman Maroušek). He starred in the documentary film The Elements, which maps three extreme sports: climbing, deep diving and BASE jumping.
