China is no more an emerging market but rather one of the world’s biggest trading players. And that would not be possible and sustainable without experienced business leaders. One of the top managers in the advisory field is a lady, Yan Mei. Yan advises major global corporations with a particular focus on public affairs, government engagement, mergers & acquisitions, corporate reputation management, as well as crisis and issue management. She provides counsel to the senior management of foreign companies as they position their organizations in China as well as leaders of Chinese companies going global.
Born in Beijing, Yan holds two master’s degrees in International Relations and Political Science from Columbia University, US, and in Advanced Russian Area Studies from Hunter College at the City University of New York. She worked as a journalist for ITN and CNN for more than a decade, winning three Emmy Awards during that time. Six years ago, after a distinguished career serving major international media companies for more than twenty years, Yan Mei joined Brunswick Group, a global advisory firm specializing in critical issues and corporate relations, and she has just taken up the role of Chair of China from 2019, reflecting the firm’s continuing investment in and growth of its offers, capabilities and leadership in the region. She joined Brunswick from Viacom International Media Networks, where she worked as Managing Director of MTV Networks Greater China and Chief Representative of Viacom Asia. Previously, Yan held a series of senior positions at Turner International Asia Pacific, News Corp. and its STAR Group.
Today, she is a regular speaker at preeminent events, most recently at the Hamburg Summit. She is Vice-Chair of the board of The Golden Bridges Foundation and a member of the 2005 Committee, the China Women’s Club and the Western Returned Scholars Association. In addition to her role at Brunswick, Yan has also been appointed as a Non-Executive Senior Advisor to KKR in Greater China.
