Emeritus professor at Fordham University in New York.
He is a specialist in the fields of strategy, knowledge management, the Baťa Management System, multi-criteria decision-making, productivity and business management systems. He is a visiting professor at the Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín and the Xidian University in Xi’an in China.
Zelený is an adherent of the capitalism of free (not open) markets, and of a non-party and non-ideological approach to economics. He has long held first place as the most cited Czech economist. He is the author of over 500 professional papers (in English) and some 600 essays, stories, popular and newspaper articles (many in Czech). He is the founder and editor-in-chief of the journal Human Systems Management, and on the editorial boards of dozens of international journals.
Zelený is the author of many books: Multiple Criteria Decision Making, Human Systems Management, Linear Multiobjective Programming, Autopoiesis: A Theory of Living Organization, etc. In Czech he has written for example ČSFR očima exilového ekonoma (ČSFR Through the Eyes of an Exiled Economist), Ještě je čas (There’s Still Time), Cesty k úspěchu (Roads to Success), Hledání vlastní cesty (In search of One’s Own Way), Neučte se z vlastních chyb (Don’t Learn from Your Own Mistakes), Všechno bude jinak (Everything Will Be Different), and To vám byl divný svět (What a Strange World It Was).
