Martin Jemelka

Historian and journalist who has long focused on social and religious history of the 19th and 20th centuries, cultural and regional history, history of everyday life, historical demography, history of music and religion.

He has been published in national magazines and almanacs. He contributes to the ‘Biographical Dictionary of Silesia and North Moravia’. He has published a number of books focusing on the Ostrava mining colony. His latest book is the monograph of the Factory Towns of the Bata Group (together with Ondřej Ševeček) which for the first time looks at the economic and, above all, social impact of Baťa’s business at the time of its peak of foreign expansion.
