Lubomír Zaorálek

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic

In 1982 Zaorálek completed his studies of philosophy and economics at the Faculty of Arts at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Brno. In November 1989 he was one of the founders of Civic Forum in Ostrava. In January 1990 he was co-opted to the Federal Assembly on behalf of Civic Forum. In 1994 he became a member of the Czech Social Democratic Party. In the party he has long handled questions of political and social philosophy, the issues of the Moravian-Silesian Region and foreign policy. In 1996 he was elected to parliament as a CSDP MP, and he has held parliamentary or government positions since that time until today. He has been head of the Czech Republic’s parliamentary delegation for the Central European Initiative, chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Chamber of Deputies, and deputy chairman and chairman of the Chamber of Deputies. Currently he is Minister of Foreign Affairs.
