Josef Šimůnek

A mountain leader who knows it all – whether it be sand, ice or the mountains.

He has been organizing expeditions throughout the world which included 11 missions to eight-thousand high mountain peaks. He conquered Shishapangma, Makalu and Lhotse. He co-founded the ‘Himalaya 8000’. He was born in Jičín and his life path has been directed by the genius loci of this area, the Bohemian Paradise. In winter he likes skiing and he enjoys rock climbing in summer. He studied geodesy and cartography at ČVUT together with his current wife Soňa Boštíková, an important Czech mountaineer. He has co-founded UIAGM, a professional association of mountain leaders in the Czech Republic. He guides skiers in the mountains and also climbers on the rocks and ice ledges of all continents.
